How The Wellness Zest Slowly Shaped Up

There was never a single defining moment when The Wellness Zest began. It didn’t start with a business plan or a bold announcement. It unfolded gradually, through years of working with people – observing closely, listening attentively, and realising that something essential was missing.

It grew quietly over time. Through conversations before and after classes. Through being a participant myself and later an instructor. I am a quiet observer by nature, I always noticed the smallest details: the huff and puff during a set, the subtle facial expressions when someone strains in a squat, the hesitation before lifting heavier weights. But I also noticed the other signs – the quiet spark when someone felt strong, the posture shift when confidence kicked in, the smile that appeared when an exercise made them feel powerful.

I was watching both sides. The empowerment AND the silent struggle.

What unsettled me was the lack of education around it. Participants weren’t always guided to understand what they should feel and why. They weren’t always shown options. They weren’t always given space to say, “This doesn’t feel right.” Feedback wasn’t consistently encouraged before or after sessions – and often, once the class ended, everyone simply moved on.

And that never quite sat right with me.

Because movement, when not understood, can cost someone more than just a tough workout. It can lead to strain, injury, or long-term discomfort. But when movement is understood, when posture is explained, options are given, and people know where they should feel an exercise – something shifts.

Confidence grows……….Safety improves……….Ownership begins.

I realised that clients don’t just need exercises. They need education. They need to understand what they are doing and why. They need to know how to adjust their movement depending on their day, their week, their energy levels, and their life phase. When you truly understand your body, you become capable of adapting. You learn when to push and when to slow down. You learn how to tweak your training around real life…and that is where long-term health begins.

As these thoughts became clearer, so did the need to give them a name.

Wellness” was obvious – because for me this was never just about fitness. It was about the bigger picture: physical health, mental clarity, sustainable habits, daily mobility and the understanding that movement is only one part of overall wellbeing.

Zest” represents energy – not the loud, short-lived kind, but the steady, sustainable energy that comes when exercise supports your life instead of draining it. When you move intentionally, in alignment with your daily/weekly demands and personal capabilities, movement becomes your fuel, your energy source. Whether you are operating at your normal pace, pushing beyond it, or intentionally slowing down, the goal is the same: to move in a way that feels right for your life, today.

The Wellness Zest was never about doing more.
It was about doing things with intention.

Yours truly
